Morning Prayers

Rising from sleep, we turn first to Christ the Light of the world. Begin each day offering your first thoughts and words to God, as the Orthodox faithful have done since apostolic times.

The Trisagion Prayers

In the Name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

Glory to Thee, our God, glory to Thee.

O Heavenly King, the Comforter, the Spirit of Truth, Who art everywhere and fillest all things. Treasury of Blessings, and Giver of Life: come and abide in us, and cleanse us from every impurity, and save our souls, O Good One.

Holy God, Holy Mighty, Holy Immortal, have mercy on us. (Three times)

Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit, now and ever and unto ages of ages. Amen.

All-Holy Trinity, have mercy on us. Lord, cleanse us from our sins. Master, pardon our transgressions. Holy One, visit and heal our infirmities for Thy Name's sake.

Lord, have mercy. (Three times)

Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit, now and ever and unto ages of ages. Amen.

Our Father, Who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy Name. Thy Kingdom come. Thy will be done, on earth as it is in Heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us, and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one.

Morning Prayer of the Optina Elders

O Lord, grant that I may meet all that this coming day brings to me with spiritual tranquility. Grant that I may fully surrender myself to Thy holy will.

At every hour of this day, direct and support me in all things. Whatsoever news may reach me in the course of the day, teach me to accept it with a calm soul and the firm conviction that all is subject to Thy holy will.

Govern my thoughts and feelings in all my words and actions. In all unexpected occurrences, do not let me forget that all is sent by Thee.

Teach me to act firmly and wisely, without embittering or embarrassing others. Give me the strength to bear the fatigue of the coming day and all that it shall bring. Direct my will, teach me to pray, pray Thyself in me. Amen.

Additional Morning Prayers

Having risen from sleep, I hasten to Thee, O Master, Lover of mankind, and by Thy loving-kindness I strive to do Thy work. I pray to Thee: help me at all times, in everything, and deliver me from every evil thing of this world and from the attacks of the devil. Save me and lead me into Thy eternal Kingdom. For Thou art my Creator and the Provider and Giver of every good, and in Thee is all my hope, and to Thee I ascribe glory, now and ever and unto ages of ages. Amen.

O Lord, Who in Thine abundant mercy and Thy deep compassion hast granted me, Thy servant, to pass through the past night without harm and to reach the beginning of this day: Do Thou Thyself, All-Powerful Master, by the power of Thy Holy Spirit, strengthen me to stand firm in Thy righteousness, and grant that I may do Thy will in all things. By Thy grace, count me worthy always to give thanks to Thee, and to glorify Thy most holy Name: of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit, now and ever and unto ages of ages. Amen.
