When Feeling Down
The Lord is near to the brokenhearted. In moments of despair, darkness, and sadness, reach out to God Who never abandons His children.
Psalm 42 (43) — Hope in God
Vindicate me, O God, and defend my cause against an ungodly people; from the deceitful and unjust man deliver me! For Thou art the God in Whom I take refuge.
Why are you cast down, O my soul, and why are you disquieted within me? Hope in God; for I shall again praise Him, my help and my God.
Send out Thy light and Thy truth; let them lead me, let them bring me to Thy holy hill and to Thy dwelling. Then I will go to the altar of God, to God my exceeding joy.
Prayer in Times of Despair
O Lord Jesus Christ, my God, Thou didst descend from heaven for my sake and didst endure the Cross and death. Thou knowest the depths of human suffering. Look upon me in my distress. The darkness presses in, and my spirit is heavy within me. Stretch forth Thy hand, as Thou didst to Peter sinking in the waves, and lift me up.
I believe, O Lord — help my unbelief. I hope in Thee — strengthen my hope. I love Thee, though weakly — inflame my love. I trust in Thy mercy, which is without measure. Do not forsake me, O Lord, for Thou art my God, and beside Thee there is no other help. Amen.
Prayer of St. Paisios of Mount Athos
My Christ, I have no strength left. Help me. I cannot bear this weight any longer. Take it from me, and give me according to my strength. I know Thou lovest me and wilt not abandon me. Even when I cannot feel Thy presence, I trust in Thee. Glory to Thee, O God, for all things.
