St. Paisios of Mount Athos
Commemorated July 12
Saint Paisios of Mount Athos (1924–1994) was a Greek Orthodox ascetic and spiritual father, widely known for his spiritual discernment, profound humility, and love for all who sought his counsel. Born in Pharsala, Cappadocia, he fled with his family to Greece as an infant during the population exchange.
After serving in the Greek army, he entered monastic life on Mount Athos, where he became one of the most beloved spiritual guides of the 20th century. His teachings emphasized simplicity, prayer of the heart, and absolute trust in God's providence. Countless miracles and answered prayers are attributed to his intercession.
Troparion (Tone 5)
The great herald of the Orthodox Faith, the Spirit-filled bearer of grace divine, the fountain of heavenly wisdom, and the abundant source of miracles, O God-bearing Paisios, we who are thy children cry out with one voice: Glory to Christ Who glorified thee; glory to Him Who made thee wondrous; glory to Him Who worketh healings for all through thee.
