The Sixth Hour

Noon Prayers

At the sixth hour, our Lord was nailed to the Cross. Pause at midday to remember His sacrifice and seek strength for the remainder of the day's labor.

Prayer at Midday

O Lord, at the sixth hour, Thou didst stretch out Thy most pure hands upon the Cross, and didst bring us salvation. Accept our prayer at this hour, and by the power of Thy Cross, keep us from all harm this day.

O Christ our God, Who at this hour didst stretch out Thy loving arms upon the Cross, that all men might be gathered unto Thee: Help us and save us, as we cry out to Thee. We bow our hearts before Thy holy Passion. Grant peace to Thy world, and to our souls, great mercy.

O Lord Jesus Christ, Son of God, for the sake of Thy most pure Mother, of our holy and God-bearing Fathers, and of all the saints, have mercy on us and save us. Amen.

Prayer of St. Philaret of Moscow (Midday)

O Lord, I know not what to ask of Thee. Thou alone knowest what is needful for me. Thou lovest me more than I myself know how to love. Help me to see my true needs which are hidden from me.

I dare not ask either a cross or consolation. I can only wait upon Thee. My heart is open to Thee. Visit and help me, for the sake of Thy great mercy. Strike me and heal me, cast me down and raise me up. I worship in silence Thy holy will and Thy unsearchable ways. I offer myself as a sacrifice to Thee. I have no other desire than to fulfill Thy will. Teach me to pray. Pray Thyself within me. Amen.
